D565 : DinkyDouble Deck Bus 290g

Red, no number on base, cast hubs, concave tail lights, roof box. Leyland Radiator. Multiple coats of paint and a chipped floor made this look like a scrapper. The tabs that held it together were ground flat and the body separated from the chassis and the axles removed. Several dips in paint stripper followed by careful use of a pin removed all the paint. The floor was roughened up, to provide a key, where the break was and metal based epoxy resin laid either side and placed on aluminium foil to support it while it set. It was left overnight to set and carefully filed down, leaving a slight lip over the join for strength, and finished with 400 grit wet and dry. The real bus had a vertical hand rail from the corner of the floor to the upper deck and it may be prudent to add one to support the repair to the floor. The bus was cleaned and primed and the first top coat applied and a second coat to the inside of the body. I reattached the chassis using some metal based epoxy on the original tabs and the final painting will be done with it assembled. The top was masked and the bottom was sprayed with the first color. It was not possible to hold this in the normal stand so some wire was shaped and pushed through the axle holes so that the spray could be directed properly. Once sprayed the headlamps and grille were painted and the wheels put back on with new axles. Left to do now are the decals. In Progress....
